A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO HONOR THE HAMMOND SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACHES ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2018 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, taking control after one play, the Hammond School football team drove past First Baptist 40-7 to nail the 2018 Class 3A State Championship in style; and
Whereas, at the title contest, held on November 17, 2018, Benedict College's stadium in Columbia echoed with the cheers of exuberant Hammond fans, pleased to see their confident predictions of victory realized as a satisfying end to a perfect 13-0 season. By the end of the title game, the Skyhawks' admirers were already looking with anticipation toward a repeat performance next year; and
Whereas, such victories do not come overnight; they take determination and hard work. With proven consistency in both, Head Coach Erik Kimrey built his football program into a championship team that refused to settle for second best; and
Whereas, throughout the season, the Skyhawks demonstrated to all comers that they had learned this critical lesson from their coach: "Discipline is just choosing between what you want now and what you want most"; and
Whereas, with this championship victory, Hammond has taken home sixteen state titles overall and won twenty-five consecutive games. In addition, Coach Kimrey has notched his tenth state title since taking over the helm of the school's football program in 2004; and
Whereas, the Skyhawks once again have given their school and community reason to be proud of their accomplishments, and the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in adding their collective voice to the many accolades flowing in to this outstanding group of young athletes. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor the Hammond School football team and coaches on their impressive win of the 2018 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 3A State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Chris Angel and Head Coach Erik Kimrey of Hammond School.
