A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-17-165 SO AS TO PROVIDE THE GOVERNING BODY OF EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THIS STATE SHALL CREATE A STUDENT BULLYING ADVISORY COUNCIL TO BE COMPRISED OF STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS SELECTED BY THE GOVERNING BODY TO ADVISE THE GOVERNING BODY ON MATTERS RELATING TO STUDENT-ON-STUDENT BULLYING PROBLEMS, AND ON OTHER MATTERS THAT THE GOVERNING BODY CONSIDERS APPROPRIATE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 17, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-17-165.    The governing body of each school district of this State shall create a Student Bullying Advisory Council to be comprised of students, parents, and teachers selected by the governing body to advise the governing body on matters relating to student-on-student bullying problems, and on other matters that the governing body considers appropriate."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
