A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE LAKE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2016 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Lake View High School football team of Dillon County took top honors once again at the state competition held this year at the Charlie W. Johnson Stadium on the campus of Benedict College in Columbia on Friday, December 16, 2016; and

Whereas, to the delight of their faithful fans, the Lake View Wild Gators hoisted the state trophy for the tenth time in the school's history after handily defeating Lamar High School 31-14; and

Whereas, the Wild Gators finished a perfect 14-0 season and tied Woodruff High School for fourth-most state championships in state history; and

Whereas, neither team posted any score in the first quarter, but in the second quarter Lake View's Tyshawn McDaniel ran 57 yards to give the Wild Gators a 7-0 lead with almost ten minutes remaining in the first half. He would light up the scoreboard two more times in the title match with a 41-yard run and a 53-yard punt return; and

Whereas, Xavier Johnson intercepted a tipped pass to give Lake View possession at the Lamar 39-yard line. Two plays later, Albert Wheeler broke free behind Lamar's Silver Fox defense to score on a 38-yard pass from Duane Nichols for the Wild Gators' second score; and

Whereas, Tyshawn McDaniel's second and third touchdowns spread the Lake View lead to 25-0 before the end of the third quarter; and

Whereas, the Silver Foxes managed to find the end zone in the fourth quarter, but it was answered four minutes late by Lake View's Josh Floyd for a 31-7 score. The Wild Gators allowed one more touchdown from Lamar with thirty seconds of play remaining in the championship game for a 31-14 finish; and

Whereas, the Wild Gators rushed and pounded their way as a single man in a sport that demands power, proficiency, and purpose to capture the team's tenth championship title; and

Whereas, the team's seasonal coaching staff maximized their own experience and enthusiasm to hone a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the gridiron; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the respect and distinction that the Lake View football players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Lake View High School varsity football team, coaches, and school officials for another impressive season and congratulate them for winning the 2016 South Carolina Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Edison Arnette and Coach Jackie Hayes.
