A RESOLUTION

Declaring March 2009 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in

2

Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, On March 17, 2009, the Irish community in this

4

Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the

5

glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and

6

WHEREAS, "St. Patrick, Guide Us to Peace and Prosperity" will

7

be this year's theme; and

8

WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution

9

in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores

10

penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a

11

future in which they and their children would enjoy the

12

bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of

13

liberty and justice for all; and

14

WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish

15

Americans have taken their place at the forefront in the

16

political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and

WHEREAS, Their contribution to the good and welfare of this

2

Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be it

3

RESOLVED, That the Senate declare March 2009 to be "Irish

4

American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania and extend its

5

felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community in this

6

Commonwealth on this occasion; and be it further

7

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to J.
