| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Declaring March 2009 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in |
2 | Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, On March 17, 2009, the Irish community in this |
4 | Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the |
5 | glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and |
6 | WHEREAS, "St. Patrick, Guide Us to Peace and Prosperity" will |
7 | be this year's theme; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution |
9 | in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores |
10 | penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a |
11 | future in which they and their children would enjoy the |
12 | bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of |
13 | liberty and justice for all; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish |
15 | Americans have taken their place at the forefront in the |
16 | political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Their contribution to the good and welfare of this |
2 | Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That the Senate declare March 2009 to be "Irish |
4 | American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania and extend its |
5 | felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community in this |
6 | Commonwealth on this occasion; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to J. |
