| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing October 21, 2010, as "Biomedical Research Day" in |
2 | Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The biomedical research community in the United |
4 | States and especially in this Commonwealth is recognized as the |
5 | world leader in discovering knowledge that promotes health and |
6 | the treatment of diseases; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Biomedical research has helped increase the life |
8 | span of people in the United States through the development of |
9 | vaccines, antibiotics and anti-infective drugs; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Biomedical research has contributed to the |
11 | elimination of many epidemic diseases, and in the United States |
12 | biomedical research has helped to prevent numerous childhood |
13 | killers; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Biomedical researchers are working diligently toward |
15 | cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, AIDS, |
16 | cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, heart and lung diseases, mental |
17 | illnesses, multiple sclerosis and countless other diseases that |

1 | affect millions of people throughout the United States; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Biomedical research has contributed to the health |
3 | and well-being of animals through vaccines and has helped the |
4 | prospects of endangered species by reducing diseases and |
5 | promoting reproduction; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Biomedical research offers the best hope for new |
7 | breakthroughs in detecting and treating diseases in the future; |
8 | therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize October 21, 2010, as |
10 | "Biomedical Research Day" in Pennsylvania. |
