A RESOLUTION
Congratulating the Pennsylvania Septage Management Association
on its 25th anniversary.
WHEREAS, Correct installation and maintenance of septic
systems is vital to the health and well-being of many of the
citizens of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Consumer safety is linked to the work of
credentialed professionals in the field of septage management;
and
WHEREAS, Members of the Pennsylvania Septage Management
Association have worked to educate consumers about the
importance of maintaining septic systems, and the perils of not
doing so, since its formal founding as the Pennsylvania Liquid
Waste Haulers Association; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Septage Management Association
began working with The Pennsylvania State University in 1989 to
develop inspection training for the inspectors of on-lot
systems, which has become a national model, as well as
developing numerous other consumer-oriented flyers and

information pieces; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Septage Management Association has
developed other programs, such as the National Vacuum Truck
Technicians Training Course and other formal training, for
septage workers in the field to learn best practices of the
industry and to promote sound environmentally sensitive
practices; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing limited public resources, the
Pennsylvania Septage Management Association has tried to assist
the Department of Environmental Protection as an active partner
to help it carry out its regulatory oversight duties; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate the Pennsylvania
Septage Management Association on its 25th anniversary.
