A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of October 21 through 27, 2012, as "Pro

Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania attorneys provide legal assistance at

4

low or no cost, commonly referred to as "pro bono" work, to more

5

than 100,000 low-income clients each year; and

6

WHEREAS, The fourth annual National Pro Bono Week will be

7

celebrated at the end of October 2012; and 

8

WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week is an opportunity to

9

highlight the differences attorneys make in their communities,

10

to recruit and train more pro bono volunteers and to acknowledge

11

the partnerships that form the basis for many of the private

12

bar's most successful pro bono efforts; and

13

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association is joining with the

14

American Bar Association to sponsor this October's annual

15

National Pro Bono Week celebrations; and

16

WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week provides numerous

17

opportunities to highlight the good work Pennsylvania attorneys

do for the most needy among us; and

2

WHEREAS, Pro bono legal services contribute to the effective

3

and efficient administration of justice; and

4

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in celebrating National Pro

5

Bono Week with what have become annual events at many sites

6

across this Commonwealth, from already scheduled events such as

7

the Berks County Pro Bono Celebration on October 23, 2012, in

8

Reading and the Pennsylvania Bar Association's seventh Annual

9

Diversity Summit on October 26, 2012, to many more events still

10

in the planning; therefore be it

11

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of October 21

12

through 27, 2012, as "Pro Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.
