A RESOLUTION

  

1

Designating the month of May 2010 as "Law Month" in Pennsylvania

2

and urging lawmakers, lawyers, judges and schools to

3

participate.

4

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) will launch

5

its eleventh annual "Law Day" program on May 5, 2010; and

6

WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, the PBA and local bar

7

associations across this Commonwealth will sponsor activities

8

throughout the month of May; and

9

WHEREAS, The theme for 2010 is "Rule of Law: It's what I live

10

by"; and

11

WHEREAS, The celebration is coordinated by the Law-Related

12

Education Committee of the PBA and funded by the Pennsylvania

13

Bar Foundation; and

14

WHEREAS, Schools, attorneys and judges will be encouraged to

15

work together to arrange for classroom visits as part of the

16

celebration; and

17

WHEREAS, The primary purpose of the celebration is to teach

children about their legal rights and responsibilities and to

2

share with them the essence of being an American citizen; and

3

WHEREAS, Students of all ages in kindergarten through college

4

will have the opportunity to explore the ways in which they can

5

have an impact on the world; and

6

WHEREAS, The annual observance of "Law Day" is part of the

7

PBA's continuing partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of

8

Education through the Pennsylvania Coalition for Representative

9

Democracy (PennCORD); and

10

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania will host the 27th National High School

11

Mock Trial Competition in Philadelphia May 6 through 8, 2010;

12

therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2010 as

14

"Law Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

15

RESOLVED, That the Senate urge all lawmakers, attorneys,

16

judges and schools to participate in this year's celebration.
