A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the week of May 13 through 19, 2012, as "National

Police Week" and May 7, 2012, as "Police Officers' Memorial

3

Day" in Pennsylvania.

4

WHEREAS, Since the beginning of law enforcement within this

5

Commonwealth, approximately 754 police officers have made the

6

ultimate sacrifice while in the line of duty, including the

7

following officers who died in 2011: Police Officer John David

8

Dryer, East Washington Borough Police Department; Patrolmen

9

Derek Kotecki, Lower Burrell Police Department; Police Officer

10

Robert Alan Lasso, Freemansburg Borough Police Department; and

11

Deputy Sheriff Kyle David Pagerly, Berks County Sheriff's

12

Department; and

13

WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 13 through

14

19, 2012, will be recognized as "National Police Week"; and

15

WHEREAS, The first National Police Officers' Memorial Day was

16

held on May 15, 1982, following a proclamation signed by

17

President John F. Kennedy on October 1, 1962, and has continued

to be observed annually in memory of those police officers who

2

made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it

3

RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of

4

police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty

5

in this Commonwealth; and be it further

6

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 13

7

through 19, 2012, as "National Police Week" and May 7, 2012, as

8

"Police Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
