A RESOLUTION

Designating October 2011 as "Pork Producers Month" in

2

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's pork industry contributes more than

4

$2,750,000,000 to the economy of this Commonwealth and supports

5

8,000 jobs; and

6

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks 13th in the nation in pork

7

production; and

8

WHEREAS, More than 3,600 farm families care for more than

9

1,100,000 hogs and pigs which support agribusinesses and crop

10

producers and provide Pennsylvania consumers with abundant

11

wholesome choices of pork products; and

12

WHEREAS, Great strides have been made in the pork industry

13

through innovative technology and progress in research,

14

genetics, production and management resulting in an economical

15

and nutritious product for today's consumers; and 

16

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania pork producers are true stewards of the

land, demonstrating that they care and are committed to

2

producing safe food, protecting and promoting animal well-being,

3

ensuring practices to protect public health, safeguarding

4

natural resources in their practices, providing a work

5

environment that is safe and contributing to a better quality of

6

life in their communities; therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate October 2011 as "Pork

8

Producers Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

9

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize Pennsylvania's pork

10

industry and pork producers for their support in advancing the

11

quality of pork production and products, their effort to educate

12

the public on issues affecting the pork industry and the

13

promotion of pork in all markets; and be it further

14

RESOLVED, That the Senate urge Pennsylvania citizens to enjoy

15

this Commonwealth's abundant supply of safe, healthy and

16

affordable pork products.
