A RESOLUTION

Honoring the 100th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's

2

birth on February 6, 2011, and recognizing February 6, 2011,

3

as "Ronald Reagan Day" in Pennsylvania.

4

WHEREAS, February 6, 2011, will be the 100th anniversary of

5

Ronald Wilson Reagan's birth, seven years after his death at the

6

age of 93 on June 5, 2004; and

7

WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan was sworn in as the 40th

8

President of the United States on January 20, 1981; and

9

WHEREAS, President Reagan led a remarkably productive life,

10

including military service before and during World War II; work

11

as a stage and movie actor, union leader and television and

12

event spokesman; and public service as a popular two-term

13

Governor of California; and

14

WHEREAS, President Reagan is among those considered as the

15

most influential presidents of the 20th century; and

16

WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan, at the age of 69, was the

17

oldest person ever elected President of the United States and

served with honor and distinction for two terms; and

2

WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan is remembered for his great

3

connection to Americans, for restoring confidence and optimism

4

in the American people and for his highly successful diplomatic

5

efforts to end the Cold War; and

6

WHEREAS, During Mr. Reagan's presidency he worked in a

7

bipartisan manner to enact his agenda of restoring

8

accountability and common sense to government which led to an

9

economic expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans;

10

and

11

WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy

12

agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and drug use

13

in our neighborhoods; and

14

WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces

15

contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her values

16

and those cherished by the free world, and prepared United

17

States Armed Forces to meet the challenges of the 21st century;

18

and

19

WHEREAS, Through his grace, charm, wit and indomitable

20

optimism, President Reagan conveyed the strength of character

21

and greatness of America; therefore be it

22

RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the 100th anniversary of

23

President Ronald Reagan's birth on February 6, 2011, and

24

recognize February 6, 2011, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in

25

Pennsylvania.
