| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating and adopting the Piper J-3 Cub as the official |
2 | airplane of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The Piper J-3 Cub was built in Lock Haven, |
4 | Pennsylvania, between 1937 and 1947 and played a major role in |
5 | the growth of the small aviation aircraft industry; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The Piper J-3 Cub was originally intended for flight |
7 | training but became one of the most popular and best-known light |
8 | aircraft of all time, prompting comparisons to the Ford Model T |
9 | automobile; and |
10 | WHEREAS, During World War II, the Piper J-3 Cub was the |
11 | primary trainer aircraft for the Civilian Pilot Training Program |
12 | and by the war's end, 80% of all United States military pilots |
13 | received their initial flight training in the Piper J-3 Cub; and |
14 | WHEREAS, After World War II, the Piper J-3 cub, built |
15 | exclusively in Lock Haven, found new popularity with private |
16 | pilots. |
17 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
18 | hereby enacts as follows: |

1 | Section 1. Official State airplane. |
2 | The Piper J-3 Cub is hereby designated and adopted as the |
3 | official airplane of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. |
4 | Section 2. Effective date. |
5 | This act shall take effect immediately. |
