| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the 100th anniversary of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. |
2 | WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was founded on the campus |
3 | of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, on January 5, |
4 | 1911, by students Elder W. Diggs, John M. Lee, Byron K. |
5 | Armstrong, Ezra D. Alexander, Henry T. Asher, Marcus P. |
6 | Blakemore, Paul W. Caine, George W. Edmonds, Guy L. Grant and |
7 | Edward G. Irvin; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was originally |
9 | incorporated under the laws of the State of Indiana as Kappa |
10 | Alpha Nu on May 15, 1911, with the motto "Achievement in every |
11 | field of human endeavor"; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The name of the fraternity was changed to Kappa |
13 | Alpha Psi as the result of a resolution offered and adopted at |
14 | the Grand Chapter in December 1914; and |
15 | WHEREAS, From its inception, and for the next six years, |

1 | Elder W. Diggs served as the Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi |
2 | Fraternity; and |
3 | WHEREAS, With the help of Byron K. Armstrong and John M. Lee, |
4 | Grand Polemarch Diggs helped to guide the infant fraternity |
5 | through the organization's tumultuous early years; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The founders of Kappa Alpha Psi sought to create an |
7 | organization that would immediately raise the aspirations of |
8 | African-American students, motivating them to reach |
9 | accomplishments higher than they ever had imagined; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is comprised of 12 |
11 | regional provinces, with its national headquarters located in |
12 | Philadelphia; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity seeks to train its |
14 | members for leadership roles in their respective communities, as |
15 | well as the attainment of a high degree of excellence in their |
16 | academic pursuits; and |
17 | WHEREAS, The Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation was established as a |
18 | nonprofit, publicly supported organization in 1981 and serves as |
19 | the philanthropic arm of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and |
20 | WHEREAS, The overall mission of the Kappa Alpha Psi |
21 | Foundation is to assist the community service efforts of the |
22 | more than 600 active undergraduate and alumni chapters of Kappa |
23 | Alpha Psi; and |
24 | WHEREAS, The foundation currently supports academic |
25 | scholarships, after-school programs and national charitable |
26 | projects such as Habitat for Humanity; and |
27 | WHEREAS, The Kappa Alpha Psi Leadership Academy seeks to |
28 | promote the development and advancement of undergraduate members |
29 | into graduate and professional schools through effective |
30 | mentoring and advocacy; therefore be it |

2 | Psi Fraternity on the 100th anniversary of its founding. |
