A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Staff Sergeant Bryan A. Hoover who was

2

killed in action in Afghanistan on June 11, 2010, and

3

expressing condolences to his family.

4

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bryan A. Hoover was born on April 19,

5

1981, in Pittsburgh and graduated from the Elizabeth Forward

6

High School in 2000 where he excelled at track, football and

7

wrestling; and

WHEREAS, After high school, S. Sgt. Hoover joined the United

2

States Marine Corps for four years and was deployed to Iraq; and

3

WHEREAS, He later joined the Army Reserves and served in Iraq

4

a second time; and

5

WHEREAS, In 2005, S. Sgt. Hoover enlisted in the Pennsylvania

6

Army National Guard, Company C, 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry

7

based in Connellsville, which unit was deployed to Afghanistan

8

in January 2010; and

9

WHEREAS, Between his deployments, S. Sgt. Hoover earned an

10

associate of arts degree from Community College of Allegheny

11

County and a bachelor of science degree in sports medicine from

12

California University of Pennsylvania where he volunteered with

13

many youth sports programs; and

14

WHEREAS, On June 11, 2010, S. Sgt. Hoover was killed in

15

action while he was on a foot patrol in Afghanistan as part of a

16

security force platoon assigned to a provincial reconstruction

17

team seeking to rebuild Afghanistan's infrastructure; and

18

WHEREAS, S. Sgt. Hoover received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart,

19

Combat Action badge and a Pennsylvania Meritorious Service medal

20

for his military service; and

21

WHEREAS, S. Sgt. Hoover is survived by his father, Melvin

22

"Sam" Hoover of West Elizabeth, three siblings and numerous

23

other family members; therefore be it

24

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

25

Staff Sergeant Bryan A. Hoover who was killed in action in

26

Afghanistan on June 11, 2010, and express condolences to his

27

family.
