A RESOLUTION

Urging the President of the United States and the United States

2

Secretary of State to expeditiously identify and bring to

3

justice the Libyan militant extremists who committed the

4

heinous crimes at the United States consulate in Benghazi,

5

Libya, on September 11, 2012.

6

WHEREAS, On September 11, 2012, the United States consulate

7

in Benghazi, Libya, was attacked and infiltrated by militant

8

extremists; and

9

WHEREAS, The United States Ambassador to Libya, J.

10

Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith and two

11

regional security officers, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen A. Doherty,

12

were brutally murdered in the attack; and

13

WHEREAS, The weapons, violence and duration of the attack

14

suggest it was a deliberate and organized terrorist attack

15

against American diplomats and personnel; and

16

WHEREAS, Senior officials from the United States Special

17

Forces have asserted that they repeatedly asked the State

18

Department of the United States for additional security

19

personnel throughout Libya to no avail; and

WHEREAS, Questions remain whether there was actionable

2

intelligence that an attack on the American consulate in

3

Benghazi was planned or imminent; and

4

WHEREAS, The United States House Committee on Oversight and

5

Government Reform will be conducting numerous hearings regarding

6

the events that left four Americans dead on September 11, 2012;

7

and

8

WHEREAS, The safety and security of American diplomats should

9

be of paramount concern to the President of the United States,

10

our Commander-in-Chief, and the State Department of the United

11

States; therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the

13

President of the United States and the United States Secretary

14

of State to expeditiously identify and bring to justice the

15

Libyan militant extremists who committed the heinous crimes at

16

the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11,

17

2012; and be it further

18

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the United

19

States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to

20

determine if and why repeated requests for additional security

21

officers at the American consulate in Benghazi were denied; and

22

be it further

23

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the United

24

States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to

25

determine why the American public was continuously deceived with

26

assertions that the Benghazi attack was spontaneous in nature;

27

and be it further

28

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the

29

President of the United States and the Secretary of State to

30

take the necessary measures to safeguard American citizens

working in tumultuous regions throughout the world; and be it

further

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to

4

the President of the United States, the United States Secretary

5

of State and each member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
