| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating September 18, 2010, as "POW/MIA Recognition Day" in |
2 | Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, For many Americans, the wars and armed conflicts in |
4 | which United States military personnel have engaged bring |
5 | difficult memories; and |
6 | WHEREAS, For former prisoners of war and the families of |
7 | missing personnel, these memories and emotions are particularly |
8 | painful; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict, hundreds |
10 | of thousands of brave Americans left their homes and families to |
11 | defend freedom and democracy in the face of communist |
12 | aggression; and |
13 | WHEREAS, The Persian Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, |

1 | Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation New Dawn and the Global |
2 | War on Terrorism have created a new generation of POW/MIA heroes |
3 | who have sacrificed so much to protect the freedoms enjoyed by |
4 | the citizens of the United States and to provide freedom and |
5 | democracy for oppressed persons living in countries controlled |
6 | by dictators and terrorist regimes; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Thousands of American military personnel lost their |
8 | lives in battle, and the fate of as many as 88,000 Americans |
9 | from past conflicts is still unknown; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Many Americans held captive were subjected to |
11 | unspeakable horrors but maintained their honor, strong faith in |
12 | our nation and indomitable spirit; and |
13 | WHEREAS, There are approximately 50,000 courageous former |
14 | prisoners of war living among us, including those held captive |
15 | during World War II, who all still cope with the physical and |
16 | emotional effects of their captivity; and |
17 | WHEREAS, We owe a profound debt of gratitude to the quiet |
18 | heroes who served our nation so well and sacrificed so much, |
19 | and, to the families of those still missing in action, we pledge |
20 | our unwavering commitment to achieve the fullest possible |
21 | accounting of their loved ones and to seek the recovery, |
22 | repatriation and identification of the remains of those who have |
23 | died; and |
24 | WHEREAS, The flag of the National League of Families of |
25 | American Prisoners of War and Missing in Southeast Asia, a black |
26 | and white banner symbolizing America's missing service members |
27 | and our unshakable resolve to ascertain their fate, is flown as |
28 | a powerful reminder of our duty to honor and account for all |
29 | persons who have so faithfully served in all wars and conflicts |
30 | in which the United States was engaged; therefore be it |

3 | Pennsylvania. |
