| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the 125th anniversary of Bethel Park. |
2 | WHEREAS, Bethel Park, a home rule municipality in Allegheny |
3 | County, was founded on June 7, 1886, when it was formally known |
4 | as Bethel Township; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Bethel Park was incorporated as a borough on March |
6 | 17, 1949; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Bethel Park currently encompasses 11.7 square miles |
8 | of land and contains nine wards governed by nine council members |
9 | and a mayor; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Bethel Park organized its first school district in |
11 | 1886, then known as the Bethel Township School District; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The school district's first high school was erected |
13 | in 1908; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The high school now consists of eight buildings on |
15 | an 80-acre campus and is home to the Black Hawks and their |
16 | mascot, which displays the school colors of black, orange and |
17 | white; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Bethel Park's police department was first |
2 | established on April 1, 1941, when only one officer was |
3 | employed; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Bethel Park provided the Pittsburgh area with its |
5 | first drive-in theater, South Park Drive-In, which operated from |
6 | August 27, 1940, until September 1, 1985; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Bethel Park provides community residents with a |
8 | multitude of recreation and leisure programs year-round; |
9 | therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Bethel Park |
11 | on the 125th anniversary of its founding; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to |
13 | Bethel Park, 5100 West Library Avenue, Bethel Park, PA 15102. |
