| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the Borough of Millersville on its 250th anniversary |
2 | year which commences on February 26, 2011. |
3 | WHEREAS, In 1761, a village was founded in Lancaster County |
4 | called Millersburg after founder John Miller, who, during the |
5 | middle of the 18th century, operated a blacksmith shop and |
6 | hardware store; and |
7 | WHEREAS, In 1820, the village's name was changed to |
8 | Millerstown and eventually became Millersville in the 1850s; and |
9 | WHEREAS, The original Miller homestead was built in 1763 and |
10 | now houses the police department of Millersville University; and |
11 | WHEREAS, The university, founded in 1855 as the first |
12 | Pennsylvania Normal School, occupies about one-quarter of the |
13 | borough's 1.9 square mile land area and contributes greatly to |
14 | the traditions, culture, economy and population of Millersville; |
15 | and |

1 | WHEREAS, Served by the Penn Manor School District, |
2 | Millersville is home of both the Penn Manor High School and |
3 | Eshleman Elementary School; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The borough is served by its own full-time police |
5 | department, the full-time Millersville Volunteer Fire Company |
6 | and the Lancaster Emergency Medical Services Association; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Millersville boasts a 21-acre borough park which |
8 | includes a wide range of recreation amenities and improvements, |
9 | and the community is fortunate to have many civic, service, |
10 | religious and other organizations which provide its residents |
11 | with a significantly good quality of life; and |
12 | WHEREAS, This year, on February 26, 2011, the borough will |
13 | commence a year-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of its |
14 | founding; therefore be it |
15 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Borough |
16 | of Millersville on its 250th anniversary year which commences on |
17 | February 26, 2011. |
