| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Supporting the value of the Pennsylvania craft beer industry by |
2 | recognizing the month of February 2012 as "PA Craft Beer |
3 | Month" in Pennsylvania. |
4 | WHEREAS, American craft breweries are defined as producing |
5 | less than 6,000,000 barrels per year; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Since 2010, Pennsylvania is home to 78 craft |
7 | breweries, 332 wholesalers and more than 15,000 malt beverage |
8 | retail establishments; and |
9 | WHEREAS, The top 50 breweries in the United States have five |
10 | Pennsylvania craft breweries present on that list; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Out of the five Pennsylvania craft breweries in the |
12 | top 50, Yuengling and Samuel Adams reside in the top five, just |
13 | below America's giants, Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania beer industry directly and |
15 | indirectly employs approximately 60,000 workers; and |
16 | WHEREAS, In 2010, the Pennsylvania beer industry directly and |

1 | indirectly generated nearly $7 billion into the State's economy; |
2 | and |
3 | WHEREAS, In 2010, the Pennsylvania beer industry contributed |
4 | over $1 billion in tax revenue to Federal, State and local |
5 | governments; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's craft brewers provide philanthropy |
7 | throughout this Commonwealth by way of event hosting, cash and |
8 | product contributions and volunteerism; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's craft brewers use local ingredients |
10 | to brew and package their products; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Increased State and local support of Pennsylvania's |
12 | craft breweries is necessary for the pride and prosperity of |
13 | this Commonwealth and its residents; therefore be it |
14 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives: |
15 | (1) support the success of Pennsylvania craft brewers; |
16 | (2) recognize the significant contributions of the beer |
17 | industry to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and |
18 | (3) encourage appreciation of the art that Pennsylvania |
19 | brewers have mastered by celebrating the month of February |
20 | 2012 as "PA Craft Beer Month" in Pennsylvania. |
