| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Congratulating Montgomery Elementary School, Montgomery, upon |
2 | its recognition as a 2009 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon |
3 | School. |
4 | WHEREAS, At an awards ceremony in Washington, DC, on November |
5 | 3, 2009, the Federal Department of Education will recognize 314 |
6 | schools in the nation as 2009 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon |
7 | Schools; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Montgomery Elementary School in Montgomery, Lycoming |
9 | County, was one of these schools, an achievement signifying the |
10 | high level of academic success its students have reached through |
11 | significant progress in testing scores and program initiatives; |
12 | and |
13 | WHEREAS, The No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools |
14 | Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high |
15 | schools that are either academically superior or that |
|
1 | demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high |
2 | levels; and |
3 | WHEREAS, The schools are selected based on one of two |
4 | criteria: |
5 | (1) Schools with at least 40% of their students from |
6 | disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student |
7 | performance to high levels on state tests; or |
8 | (2) Schools whose students, regardless of background, |
9 | achieve in the top 10% of their state on state tests or in |
10 | the case of private schools in the top 10% of the nation on |
11 | nationally normed tests; |
12 | and |
13 | WHEREAS, Students at Montgomery Elementary School score in |
14 | the top 10% of the students in Pennsylvania on the Pennsylvania |
15 | System of School Assessment tests; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Montgomery Elementary School is one of only 13 |
17 | schools in this Commonwealth to be honored in 2009 as a Blue |
18 | Ribbon School; therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate |
20 | Montgomery Elementary School, Montgomery, upon its recognition |
21 | as a 2009 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon School. |
