| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing and honoring the Master Builders' Association of |
2 | Western Pennsylvania on its 125th anniversary. |
3 | WHEREAS, The Master Builders' Association of Western |
4 | Pennsylvania is a member-driven association committed to |
5 | improving the construction industry and maintaining high |
6 | professional standards among contractors; and |
7 | WHEREAS, On March 19, 1886, a group of builders representing |
8 | Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities formed the Master |
9 | Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania to better the |
10 | conditions of general contractors and fulfill a need for unified |
11 | contractor representation in organized labor dealings; and |
12 | WHEREAS, These builders also recognized the value of |
13 | promoting the common interests of those in the construction |
14 | industry and the need to establish guidelines for quality and |
15 | professionalism; and |
16 | WHEREAS, In 1922, the Master Builders' Association of Western |

1 | Pennsylvania was proud to be recognized as one of the founding |
2 | chapters of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), |
3 | which at that time provided employment to more than 3.5 million |
4 | workers; and |
5 | WHEREAS, In order to advance the contractor's competitive |
6 | stance within the market, the Master Builders' Association of |
7 | Western Pennsylvania instituted the Construction Advancement |
8 | Program in 1961 through collective bargaining agreements with |
9 | the various building trade unions; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The Master Builders' Association of Western |
11 | Pennsylvania expanded its membership in 1985 to include |
12 | respected subcontractor groups, such as the Master Interior |
13 | Contractors Association; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In 1998, the Master Builders' Association of Western |
15 | Pennsylvania negotiated an unprecedented seven-year agreement |
16 | with the Carpenters, Cement Masons, Laborers and Operating |
17 | Engineers; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Today, the membership of the Master Builders' |
19 | Association of Western Pennsylvania includes more than 150 of |
20 | the region's top general contractors, construction managers, |
21 | specialty contractors and service and supplier companies, |
22 | collectively accounting for more than 80% of the commercial |
23 | construction in the area; and |
24 | WHEREAS, The Master Builders' Association of Western |
25 | Pennsylvania recently added to its rich history by having its |
26 | headquarters designated a Leadership in Energy and Environmental |
27 | Design Gold certification from the United States Green Building |
28 | Council last year; and |
29 | WHEREAS, Members are marking the association's 125th |
30 | anniversary by featuring 125 buildings that the Master Builders' |

1 | Association of Western Pennsylvania has built to improve the |
2 | quality of life in the region; therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the |
4 | Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania on its |
5 | landmark 125th anniversary; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives thank the Master |
7 | Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania for its commitment |
8 | to Pennsylvania workers and for continuing to build the region |
9 | and lead the industry by setting the industry safety standard as |
10 | the construction industry's leading voice; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to |
12 | the Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania located |
13 | at 631 Iron City Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15205. |
