A RESOLUTION

Designating October 17, 2011, as "Interior Design Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has a high percentage of people

4

employed in creative design professions, many of whom are

5

interior designers; and

6

WHEREAS, Interior design is a multifaceted profession that

7

applies creative and technical solutions within a structure to

achieve a functional and aesthetically pleasing interior

2

environment, while enhancing the quality of life and living

3

culture of the occupants; and

4

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is host to many students attending more

5

than 17 colleges and universities to study the discipline of

6

interior design in residential and public environments; and

7

WHEREAS, Interior design includes a scope of services

8

performed by professional design practitioners, qualified by

9

means of education, experience and examination; and

10

WHEREAS, More than 600 interior designers are qualified by

11

the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)

12

examination and recognized by the Federal Government to protect

13

and enhance the health, life, safety and welfare of the public

14

with the ability to perform services for government projects;

15

and

16

WHEREAS, Interior designers are responsible for the planning

17

of interior space and must be skilled in resolving and

18

coordinating proper planning and egress in addition to following

19

regulations set forth by building codes; and

20

WHEREAS, The interior design community encourages the use of

21

the principles of environmental leadership in sustainability and

22

responsible design initiatives; therefore be it

23

RESOLVED, That members of the House of Representatives

24

commend Pennsylvania's interior designers for their commitment

25

to improving the lives of the citizens of Pennsylvania and

26

acknowledge the interior design industry for its continued

27

pursuit of interior environments that enhance the safety and

28

quality of life of the citizens of Pennsylvania, in addition to

29

the professional contributions to the economic health of this

30

Commonwealth; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October

2

17, 2011, as "Interior Design Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it

3

further

RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the House of

5

Representatives be authorized and directed to transmit

6

appropriate copies of this resolution to members of the public

7

and the press.
