INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 24, 2011
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 21 through 27, 2011, as "Safe
Boating Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The recreational sport of boating attracts tens of
thousands of enthusiasts each year, with the overwhelming
majority practicing safe boating rules and regulations that have
been taught to them through the good work of the United States
Coast Guard Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, This good work is conducted locally by members of
the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 5, who work
closely with the Fish and Boat Commission to ensure safe boating
on State waterways; and
WHEREAS, Last year, 61 boating injuries requiring medical
treatment were reported, most of which occurred as the result of
collisions with submerged objects or with other vessels; and
WHEREAS, The good work of the members of the United States
Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 5, and their fellow auxiliary

members across the nation, deserves to be lauded and recognized,
along with their substantial efforts to improve safety on our
waterways; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of May 21 through 27, 2011, as "Safe Boating Week" in
Pennsylvania.
