A RESOLUTION

  

1

Designating the month of January 2011 as "Learn to Ski and

2

Snowboard Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's geography is the backdrop for outdoor

4

recreation; and

5

WHEREAS, Tens of thousands of winter enthusiasts migrate to

6

the Pennsylvania mountains every week to ski and snowboard on

7

trails that offer cruising comfort in a majestic setting or the

8

excitement of a pulse-pounding challenge on a downhill course;

9

and

10

WHEREAS, There are more than 23 ski resorts in all regions of

11

this Commonwealth, from the Endless Mountains to the

12

Philadelphia suburbs, central Pennsylvania from the Maryland to

13

the New York borders and throughout the Alleghenies; and

14

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania ski resorts have a significant

15

economic impact on the communities in which they are located and

16

on the Commonwealth as a whole; and

WHEREAS, Participating in a snow sport provides opportunities

2

for exercise and for friendships that can last a lifetime; and

3

WHEREAS, Not knowing how to ski or snowboard is no longer an

4

excuse for sitting at home on the sidelines; and

5

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, along with

6

34 other states, the SnowSports Industries America, the

7

Professional Ski Instructors of America-American Association of

8

Snowboard Instructors, the National Ski Areas Association and

9

the Cross Country Ski Areas Association have united to offer

10

affordable learn to ski and snowboard programs that will open

11

the door to the wonderful world of skiing and snowboarding for

12

many winter enthusiasts throughout the entire season; and

13

WHEREAS, The theme of this year's national effort, "Humans

14

Were Never Meant to Hibernate," is meant to get children and

15

adults outside this winter for fun and exercise in the snow; and

16

WHEREAS, Ski icon Glen Pake and Olympic Gold Medal winner

17

Bode Miller serve as ambassadors for "Learn to Ski and Snowboard

18

Month"; and

19

WHEREAS, The House of Representatives and all Pennsylvanians

20

appreciate and thank the dedicated individuals who work

21

tirelessly to uphold Pennsylvania's outdoor recreation and help

22

maintain strong winter tourism in this Commonwealth; therefore

23

be it

24

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

25

month of January 2011 as "Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month" in

26

Pennsylvania; and be it further

27

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the

28

Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, P.O. Box 27, White Haven, PA

29
