A RESOLUTION

Recognizing 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Jimmie

2

Johnson for his achievements on and off the track.

3

WHEREAS, The members of the General Assembly traditionally

4

are pleased to recognize and honor successful and talented

5

athletes who, through their magnificent exploits, have

6

established themselves as premier competitors in their

7

respective sports; and

8

WHEREAS, One such noteworthy person is Jimmie Johnson, who

9

has achieved the highest level of success in NASCAR upon winning

10

an unprecedented fifth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

11

Championship in 2010; and

12

WHEREAS, Long Pond, Pennsylvania, is home to Pocono Raceway

13

the host of two NASCAR Sprint Cup series events annually, and

14

where Jimmie Johnson has achieved great success throughout his

15

career, winning the Pocono 500 and Pennsylvania 500 in 2004,

16

securing two pole position awards, recording 12 top-ten finishes

and leading 517 laps in his career; and

WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson has distinguished himself as a true

3

humanitarian through the work of his charitable organization -

4

the Jimmie Johnson Foundation; and

5

WHEREAS, The Jimmie Johnson Foundation has contributed more

6

than $3.5 million to various organizations since its inception

7

in 2006 in support of the Foundation's mission to assist

8

children, families and communities in need throughout the United

9

States; and

10

WHEREAS, The Jimmie Johnson Foundation, with the support of

11

NASCAR fans and partners, has helped to save tens of thousands

12

of lives through blood collection and by adding individuals to

13

the National Marrow Donor Program Registry; and

14

WHEREAS, It is appropriate to acknowledge and honor Jimmie

15

Johnson for his accomplishments in NASCAR and outstanding

16

commitment to public service through the Jimmie Johnson

17

Foundation; therefore be it

18

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 195th

19

General Assembly of Pennsylvania recognize Jimmie Johnson upon

20

the occasion of winning his fifth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup

21

Series title; and be it further

22

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

23

Jimmie Johnson, Jimmie Johnson Foundation, 4325 Papa Joe
