A RESOLUTION

Designating April 28, 2009, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of

2

the Year Day" in Pennsylvania. 

3

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have touched the

4

lives of millions of children and teens through membership and

5

community outreach; and

6

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have more than

7

4,000 club locations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the

8

Virgin Islands, plus domestic and international military bases;

9

and

10

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is home to 18 independent Boys and

11

Girls Clubs of America organizations operating in 75

12

neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America serve more than

2

115,000 children across this Commonwealth from five to 18 years

3

of age; and

4

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have helped, and

5

will continue to help, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania's

6

youth avoid drugs and gangs, earn better grades, stay fit,

7

prepare for careers, learn confidence and responsibility and

8

develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills; and

9

WHEREAS, The "Youth of the Year Day" is an annual event by

10

which members representing each of the 18 clubs across this

11

Commonwealth are honored for their outstanding service to their

12

clubs and their communities; and

13

WHEREAS, On "Youth of the Year Day," one club member is

14

chosen by a diverse panel of community leaders among this elite

15

group of children and young adults to be named "Youth of the

16

Year"; therefore be it

17

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April

18

28, 2009, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year Day" in

19

Pennsylvania in recognition of the role Boys and Girls Clubs of

20

America has played in the nation and in this Commonwealth.
