A RESOLUTION

Declaring March 2009 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in

2

Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, On March 17, 2009, the Irish community in this

4

Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the

5

glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and

6

WHEREAS, "St. Patrick, guide us to peace and prosperity" is

7

the theme of the 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Philadelphia;

8

and

9

WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution

10

in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores

11

penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a

12

future in which they and their children would enjoy the

13

bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of

 


1

liberty and justice for all; and

2

WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish

3

Americans have taken their place at the forefront in the

4

political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and

5

WHEREAS, Their contribution to the good and welfare of this

6

Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare March

8

2009 to be "Irish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania and

9

extend its felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community

10

in this Commonwealth on this momentous occasion; and be it

11

further

12

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the

13

Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D., Upper Merrion Street, Dublin,

14

Ireland, and Michael F. Callahan, St. Patrick's Day Observance

15

Association, P.O. Box 32158, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19146.
