AN ACT

Establishing the Women, Infants and Children Special

2

Supplemental Program in the Department of Health and

3

providing for its purposes; establishing the Women, Infants

4

and Children Special Supplemental Program Fund; and making an

5

appropriation.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

7

hereby enacts as follows:

8

Section 1.  Short title.

9

This act shall be known and may be cited as the Women,

10

Infants and Children Special Supplemental Program Act.

11

Section 2.  Women, Infants and Children Special Supplemental

12

Program.

13

(a)  Establishment.--There is established in the Department

14

of Health a program to be known as the Women, Infants and

15

Children Special Supplemental Program.

16

(b)  Purposes of program.--The purposes for which the program

17

is established are as follows:

(1)  To pay for administrative costs of a county agency

2

or nonprofit entity that provides food and nutrition to

3

eligible persons.

4

(2)  To improve the efficiency of other programs for

5

women, infants and children.

6

(3)  To establish outreach programs for women, infants

7

and children.

8

(4)  To educate the public about proper nutrition.

9

(5)  To pay for salaries, benefits, rent and supplies to

10

carry out the purposes of this program.

Section 3.  Women, Infants and Children Special Supplemental

12

Program Fund.

(a)  Establishment.--There is established in the State

14

Treasury a separate fund to be known as the Women, Infants and

15

Children Special Supplemental Program Fund.

16

(b)  Purpose of fund.--The fund shall be used to carry out

17

the purposes of this act as determined by the Secretary of

18

Health in accordance with the provisions of this act.

19

Section 4.  Appropriation.

20

The sum of $5,000,000 is hereby appropriated for fiscal year

21

2009-2010 to the Women, Infants and Children Special

22

Supplemental Program Fund to carry out the provisions of this

23

act.

24

Section 5.  Effective date.

25

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
