AN ACT

  

1

Amending the act of June 3, 1937 (P.L.1333, No.320), entitled

2

"An act concerning elections, including general, municipal,

3

special and primary elections, the nomination of candidates,

4

primary and election expenses and election contests; creating

5

and defining membership of county boards of elections;

6

imposing duties upon the Secretary of the Commonwealth,

7

courts, county boards of elections, county commissioners;

8

imposing penalties for violation of the act, and codifying,

9

revising and consolidating the laws relating thereto; and

10

repealing certain acts and parts of acts relating to

11

elections," providing for early voting.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

13

hereby enacts as follows:

14

Section 1.  The act of June 3, 1937 (P.L.1333, No.320), known

15

as the Pennsylvania Election Code, is amended by adding a

16

section to read:

17

Section 606.  Early Voting.--(a)  Notwithstanding any other

18

provision of law, qualified electors may vote at designated

19

polling places in their election districts beginning ten (10)

20

days before a general, municipal or primary election.

(b)  The county board of elections shall designate polling

places as early voting sites no later than the thirtieth (30th)

2

day prior to an election. The early voting sites shall be

3

geographically located to provide voters in the election

4

district an equal opportunity to cast a ballot.

5

(c)  The canvass of returns for ballots cast under this

6

section shall not be made before the close of the polls on the

7

final election day.

8

(d)  Except as otherwise provided in this section, early

9

voting shall be conducted in accordance with this act.

10

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
