| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An |
2 | act relating to the public school system, including certain |
3 | provisions applicable as well to private and parochial |
4 | schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the |
5 | laws relating thereto," further providing for payment of |
6 | salaries in cases of sickness, injury or death. |
7 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
8 | hereby enacts as follows: |
9 | Section 1. Section 1154(c) of the act of March 10, 1949 |
10 | (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, |
11 | amended December 22, 1965, (P.L.1180, No.467), is amended to |
12 | read: |
13 | Section 1154. Payment of Salaries in Cases of Sickness, |
14 | Injury or Death.--* * * |
15 | (c) Whenever a professional or temporary professional |
16 | employe is absent because of the death of a near relative, there |
17 | shall be no deduction in the salary of said employe for absence |
18 | on the day of the funeral. The board of school directors may |

1 | extend the period of absence with pay in its discretion as the |
2 | exigencies of the case may warrant. A near relative shall be |
3 | defined as a first cousin, grandfather, grandmother, grandchild, |
4 | aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, |
5 | brother-in-law or sister-in-law. |

7 | Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately. |
