AN ACT

Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

2

Statutes, providing for biennial registration of certain

3

vehicles; and further providing for annual registration fees,

4

for passenger cars and for trucks and truck tractors.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

6

hereby enacts as follows:

7

Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

8

Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:

9

§ 1307.2.  Biennial registration of certain vehicles.

10

The department may establish a system for renewing the

11

vehicle registration of passenger cars, Class 1 trucks and Class

12

2 trucks on a biennial basis to owners and lessees of the

13

vehicles and may promulgate rules and regulations to implement

14

the system.

Section 2.  Sections 1911(a) and 1912 of Title 75 are amended

16

to read:

§ 1911.  Annual and biennial registration fees.

(a)  General rule.--An annual or optional biennial fee for

2

the registration of vehicles as provided in Chapter 13 (relating

3

to the registration of vehicles) shall be charged by the

4

department as provided in this title.

§ 1912.  Passenger cars.

(a)  General rule.--The annual fee for registration of a

8

passenger car shall be $36.

9

(b)  Optional biennial registration.--A vehicle may be

10

registered for a period of two years upon payment by the

11

registrant of the applicable fee of $72.

Section 3.  Section 1916 of Title 75 is amended by adding a

13

subsection to read:

14

§ 1916.  Trucks and truck tractors.

15

(c)  Optional biennial registration.--A vehicle designated

17

Class 1 or Class 2 under this section may be registered for a

18

period of two years upon payment by the registrant of the

19

applicable fee of $117 for Class 1 and $162 for Class 2.

Section 4.  This act shall take effect in 180 days.
