AN ACT

Amending the act of May 27, 1893 (P.L.171, No.118), entitled, as

2

amended, "An act providing for the acquisition of land and

3

the erection, equipment, management, and operation of the

4

Scotland School for Veterans' Children; the maintenance of

5

children admitted thereto, and regulating the admissions to

6

and discharges from the said Scotland School for Veterans'

7

Children," providing for admissions requirements and for

8

private funding.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

10

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  The act of May 27, 1893 (P.L.171, No.118),

12

entitled, as amended, "An act providing for the acquisition of

13

land and the erection, equipment, management, and operation of

14

the Scotland School for Veterans' Children; the maintenance of

15

children admitted thereto, and regulating the admissions to and

16

discharges from the said Scotland School for Veterans'

17

Children," is amended by adding sections to read:

Section 1.1.  The following admissions requirements shall

19

apply:

20

(1)  The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs shall

21

set a goal of enrolling no less than three hundred and twenty-

five students per school year.

2

(2)  No child may be admitted unless a parent or legal

3

guardian of the child is an honorably discharged veteran of the

4

United States Armed Forces.

5

(3)  The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs shall

6

develop a program which provides for a recruitment and

7

appointment process involving the General Assembly for no less

8

than half of the new student body enrollments per year.

9

Section 13.1.  The Department of Military and Veterans

10

Affairs may secure and receive private funds for budgetary

11

operations from estates, endowments, foundations and alumni

12

associations.

13

Section 2.  This act shall apply retroactively to January 1,

14

2009.

15

Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.
