                 Senate Concurrent Resolution 11

Sponsored by Senator BEYER, Representatives HANNA, LIVELY;
  Senators KRUSE, PROZANSKI, ROBLAN, Representatives BARNHART,
  FREEMAN

  Whereas Sidney Leiken was born December 19, 1916, in New Haven,
Connecticut; and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken married Thora Hult, and together they had
three children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren;
and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken worked as a logger and sawyer before
starting L&H Lumber Company in Sutherlin, Oregon; and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken also started Saddle Butte Development
Company in Roseburg, Oregon, which employed hundreds of Douglas
County residents; and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken was cofounder and the first Chairman of
the Board of Douglas National Bank; and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken was elected to the House of
Representatives in 1960 and served four terms with distinction,
including serving on the Joint Committee on Ways and Means, where
he was instrumental in securing the funding to build Umpqua
Community College in Douglas County; and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken was known for his mentorship of
first-term members of the Legislative Assembly and taught them
how to broker a deal; and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken was an avid golfer and had the
distinction of sinking five holes-in-one during his lifetime; and
  Whereas Sidney Leiken passed away on July 26, 2012, at the age
of 95; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:

  That we, the members of the Seventy-seventh Legislative
Assembly, honor Sidney Leiken for his service to the Legislative
Assembly and the State of Oregon and for his many contributions
to his family, friends, community and country.
