Creates Assistance to Victims of Sex Trafficking Program.
Allows nonprofit organizations to prepare and distribute
informational materials about sex trafficking for posting in
public places.
A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to sex trafficking.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1. { + (1) As used in this section:
(a) 'Public place' means a public transit vehicle, law
enforcement vehicle, taxi, gasoline station, roadside rest area
managed by the Department of Transportation or the Travel
Information Council or any place where a victim of sex
trafficking is likely to see informational materials.
(b) 'Sex trafficking' means the inducement of a person under 18
years of age into an act of commercial sex by force, fraud or
coercion.
(2) There is created the Assistance to Victims of Sex
Trafficking Program.
(3) The purpose of the program is to provide information to:
(a) Help victims of sex trafficking escape exploitation; and
(b) Increase public awareness about sex trafficking and steps
that can be taken to assist victims to escape exploitation.
(4)(a) A nonprofit organization may prepare informational
materials about sex trafficking and submit the materials to the
Department of Justice for its review and approval.
(b) Review by the department shall include a review for
accuracy of information.
(5) The nonprofit organization may distribute, without charge,
informational materials approved by the department for posting in
public places.
(6) The informational materials may include hotline telephone
numbers, locations where victims of sex trafficking can obtain
assistance and any other information that would assist victims.
(7) The form of the informational materials may include, but
need not be limited to, adhesive stickers.
(8) A public place, as a public service, may post the
informational materials in a conspicuous place. + }
