77th OREGON LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY--2013 Regular Session Enrolled House Resolution 2 Sponsored by Representatives SMITH, JENSON Whereas Robert E. Severson served his community of Hermiston, Oregon, for nearly two decades, having been elected to the Hermiston City Council in 1995 and then as mayor of the City of Hermiston in 2000; and Whereas Mayor Severson was dedicated to improving and growing Hermiston and its reputation throughout this state; and Whereas Mayor Severson traveled throughout Oregon to share information about his community and express the importance of eastern Oregon agriculture to the economy of this state; and Whereas Mayor Severson was instrumental in initiating the construction of Martha's House, a shelter to provide help for those in need; and Whereas Mayor Severson served on the Board of Directors of the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce, as a board member of the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center and as a member of the Hermiston Futures Task Force; and Whereas Mayor Severson participated in Relay for Life and the Rotary Club, among many other charitable endeavors, and was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church; and Whereas Mayor Severson helped push for the creation of Hermiston Energy Services to keep the costs of energy down for residents and businesses alike; and Whereas Mayor Severson worked tirelessly to blend the agricultural assets of Hermiston with 21st-century realities, making Hermiston a home to industries providing cutting edge agricultural engineering, food processing and power generation methods; and Whereas Mayor Severson was an exceptional caregiver to his wife, Janet, who became disabled in 2004, and took on additional responsibilities at home while continuing to work with and for his community; and Whereas Mayor Severson passed away on December 10, 2012; and Whereas Mayor Severson will be remembered for his passionate advocacy on behalf of and service to his community; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the Seventy-seventh Legislative Assembly, honor Robert E.
