                             SUMMARY

The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the

brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.

  Commends philanthropy in Oregon.

                      CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas Oregon has almost 800 public and private foundations
that provide an array of services such as feeding the hungry,
sheltering the homeless, supporting education and research and
promoting the arts; and
Whereas in 2010 there were 15,322 public charities in Oregon
with total assets of $50,434,144,683; and
Whereas in 2008 the median grant awarded to Oregon recipients
was $7,000, representing an increase between 2004 and 2008 of 61
percent; and
Whereas philanthropy is not limited to monetary contributions
from foundations and corporate givers but also includes
contributions of time and effort from individual Oregonians as
volunteers to their communities and other organizations; and
Whereas the Oregon State Service Plan has expanded volunteerism
and community service through development and implementation of
the 2009-2012 State Plan for Volunteerism; and
Whereas one million Oregon adults volunteered through or for an
organization, ranking Oregon 11th among the 50 states and
Washington, D.C.; and
Whereas individuals, foundations and corporate givers
contribute to Oregon's economic and social systems in ways that
government cannot; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly,
recognize and commend the generous individuals, foundations, and
corporate givers of Oregon for the many charitable acts they
perform that enrich the quality of life for all Oregonians.
