                 House Concurrent Resolution 15

Sponsored by COMMITTEE ON VETERANS AFFAIRS (at the request of
  Representatives Brad Witt, Wally Hicks and Jeff Barker)

  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille was born on July 14, 1923,
of French and Native American ancestry; and
  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille enlisted in the United
States Marines at 18 years of age in 1942; and
  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille, who achieved the rank of
Corporal as a member of the Fighting Fourth Marine Division,
participated in invasions of five islands in the Pacific-Roi and
Namur in the Kwajalein Atoll, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima; and
  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille took shrapnel in his leg
during the fighting on Saipan and received a Purple Heart; and
  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille still carries the shrapnel
in his leg today; and
  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille also received the Asiatic
Pacific Campaign Medal of World War II with four battle stars,
the Victory Medal of World War II and a Good Conduct Medal; and
  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille's Marine division was
decimated by casualties from the fighting on Iwo Jima and was
returned to Camp Pendleton for deactivation and reassignment to
other units; and
  Whereas Philip Chester Bellefeuille is a member of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Bend and Redmond Posts; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:

  That we, the members of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly,
express our gratitude for Philip Chester Bellefeuille's heroic
service during World War II and bravery shown during some of the
fiercest fighting of World War II.
