  Prohibits health care provider from billing for medical
equipment that is not covered by patient's insurance under
specified circumstances.

                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to the cost of medical equipment.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + A health care provider may not bill a patient
for an item of medical equipment that is not covered by the
patient's insurance, and the patient is not liable for the cost
of an item of medical equipment that is not covered by the
patient's insurance, if at the time the item is offered the
patient presents evidence of valid insurance coverage and:
  (1) The provider fails to contact the insurer to find out if
the item is covered; or
  (2) The provider fails to verbally inform the patient that the
item is not covered or is unlikely to be covered by the patient's
insurance. + }
