A RESOLUTION
To designate the month of March 2012 as "Skilled 1
Workforce Recognition Month" in Ohio.2


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 129th General 3
Assembly of the State of Ohio are pleased to designate the month 4
of March 2012 as "Skilled Workforce Recognition Month" in Ohio; 5
and6

       WHEREAS, Ohio has one of the most robust, comprehensive, and 7
successful career and technical education systems in the United 8
States of America. In fact, there are fifty joint vocational 9
career centers, forty-two comprehensive/compact districts and 10
forty-eight community schools in Ohio that offer career-focused 11
programs to high school students, adult students, or both; and12

       WHEREAS, Adult and high school workforce education, part of 13
career and technical education in Ohio, plays a critical role in 14
educating a skilled workforce for today's jobs and tomorrow's 15
innovations. In Ohio, students of all ages, high school and adult, 16
have the opportunity to pursue their educational and career 17
passions through career-technical and adult education programs 18
offered in every region of the state. 19

       WHEREAS, Career-technical education is a tool that adult 20
students utilize in order to move more quickly toward employment. 21
Career-technical education also prepares high school students for 22
college and careers and helps to fill the "skills gap" 23
contributing to placement in over 78,000 unfilled jobs in Ohio; 24
and25

       WHEREAS, Students who take advantage of educational 26
opportunities offered through their local, publicly funded 27
career-technical education programs increase their marketability 28
in the workforce; and29

       WHEREAS, Adult workforce education plays a critical role in 30
worker retraining. For example, adult workforce education has 31
trained over 89,000 adults throughout Ohio and 2010 graduation 32
rates for all high school career-technical students were 33
approximately ninety-nine per cent and the overall rate of 34
placement of high school workforce development education students 35
(college, career, or military) was approximately ninety per cent; 36
now therefore be it 37

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th 38
General Assembly of the State of Ohio, in adopting this 39
resolution, designate March 2012 as "Skilled Workforce Recognition 40
Month" in Ohio; and be it further41

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th 42
General Assembly of the State of Ohio, in adopting this 43
resolution, recognize the importance of adult workforce education 44
to the advancement of Ohio's working adults and the strength and 45
vitality of Ohio's economic future; and be it further46

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 47
authenticated copy of this resolution to the President of the 48
Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the 49
Association for Career and Technical Education, and the news media 50
of Ohio.51
