WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Dr. Jay Martin on being named the 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Coach of the Year in men's soccer; and |
WHEREAS, As the head men's soccer coach at Ohio Wesleyan University since 1977, Jay Martin has demonstrated remarkable integrity and dedication. Throughout the season, he has not only encouraged each player to develop his talents to the fullest but also instilled in each a valuable sense of determination, perseverance, camaraderie, and spirit, and as a result, the Battling Bishops defeated a tough Calvin College squad to win the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship, its second national title in school history; and |
WHEREAS, The expertise, guidance, and sound judgment of coaches such as Jay Martin are critical to the ultimate success of any athletic endeavor. During his tenure, the Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer program has won twenty North Coast Athletic Conference championships, reached the NCAA Division III semifinals nine times, placed second in the nation twice, and compiled an impressive 608-115-49 record, making him the winningest coach in collegiate men's soccer, and he has received numerous Coach of the Year honors at the regional and national levels. Due largely to his tireless efforts, the Battling Bishops have emerged as winners, both in and out of athletic competition, and he has earned the genuine respect and admiration of many; and |
WHEREAS, With athletic competition playing such an important role in the total education of our young people, we are extremely pleased to pay tribute to Coach Martin for a job well-done. His outstanding rapport with his players, as well as with his fellow coaches, has been a vital factor in the Battling Bishops' accomplishments, and he is certainly deserving of high praise; therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Jay Martin as the 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Coach of the Year in men's soccer and extend best wishes for the future; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Dr. Jay Martin. |
