| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate the Horizon Science Academy Cleveland High School chess team on winning the 2012 Ohio Grade Level Championship and the 2013 Queen City Classic Chess Tournament; and |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Horizon Science Academy Cleveland High School chess team are a remarkable group of young academicians, combining talent and competitive spirit with exceptional knowledge of chess to place first at the 2012 Ohio Grade Level Championship, third at the 2012 United States Chess Federation National Championship, and first at the 2013 Queen City Classic Chess Tournament. Throughout long hours of practice and training, the students have displayed a degree of determination and motivation of which they can be proud; and |
| WHEREAS, In preparing themselves for competition, the members of the Horizon Science Academy Cleveland High School chess team have acquired abilities that will be of tremendous benefit to them throughout their lives. Participation in an activity such as chess provides an opportunity for youth to strive for excellence, and these fine players have admirably succeeded; and |
| WHEREAS, The achievements of the Horizon Science Academy Cleveland High School chess team are an outstanding reflection not only on the members but also on their families, their coaches, David Allen and Calvin Marshall, their school, and their community. The maturity and experience the students have gained through their study of chess will greatly aid them in meeting the challenges of the future; therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend the Horizon Science Academy Cleveland High School chess team on its accomplishments and salute the members and coaches as some of Ohio's finest citizens; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Horizon Science Academy Cleveland High School chess team. |
