A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To urge the Congress of the United States to 1
establish a Place of Remembrance at Arlington 2
National Cemetery for the interment of cremated 3
fragments of the remains of members of the Armed 4
Forces.5


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, The Air Force has acknowledged dumping the 6
incinerated partial remains of at least 274 members of the United 7
States Armed Forces in a Virginia landfill between 2004 and 2008; 8
and9

       WHEREAS, The Air Force has confirmed that additional 10
unidentified remains, fragments of which could not undergo DNA 11
testing because they had been badly burned or damaged in 12
explosions, were collected from battlefields and disposed of in 13
the same manner; and 14

       WHEREAS, Disposal of the remains of our country's fallen 15
troops in this manner does not represent an appropriate 16
disposition of their remains; and17

       WHEREAS, Members of the United States Armed Forces who have 18
made the ultimate sacrifice deserve a dignified final resting 19
place; and20

       WHEREAS, The 112th Congress of the United States has under 21
consideration H.R. 5735 to provide for the establishment of a 22
Place of Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery for the 23
interment of cremated fragments of the remains of members of the 24
Armed Forces killed in Afghanistan, Iraq, and subsequent 25
conflicts; now therefore be it26

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 129th General Assembly 27
of the State of Ohio, urge the Congress of the United States to 28
establish a Place of Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery as 29
described in the last finding above; and be it further30

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 31
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 32
President of the United States, to the Speaker and Clerk of the 33
United States House of Representatives, to the President Pro 34
Tempore and Secretary of the United States Senate, to the members 35
of the Ohio Congressional delegation, and to the news media of 36
Ohio.37
