A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To recognize the contributions of pregnancy resource 1
centers.2


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):


       WHEREAS, The life-affirming impact of pregnancy resource 3
centers on the women, men, children, and communities they serve is 4
considerable and growing; and5

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers serve women in Ohio and 6
across the United States with integrity and compassion; and7

       WHEREAS, More than two thousand five hundred pregnancy 8
resource centers across the United States provide comprehensive 9
care to individuals facing unplanned pregnancies, including 10
resources to meet their physical, psychological, emotional, and 11
spiritual needs; and12

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers offer women free, 13
confidential, and compassionate services, including pregnancy 14
tests, peer counseling, twenty-four-hour telephone hotlines, 15
childbirth and parenting classes, and referrals to community, 16
health care, and support services; and17

       WHEREAS, Many pregnancy resource centers offer ultrasound and 18
other medical services; and19

        WHEREAS, Many pregnancy resource centers provide information 20
on adoption and adoption referrals to pregnant mothers; and21

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers encourage women to make 22
positive life choices by equipping them with complete and accurate 23
information regarding their pregnancy options and the development 24
of their unborn children; and25

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers provide women with 26
compassionate and confidential peer counseling in a nonjudgmental 27
manner regardless of their pregnancy outcomes; and28

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers provide important support 29
and resources for women who choose childbirth over abortion; and30

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers ensure that women are 31
receiving prenatal information and services that lead to the birth 32
of healthy infants; and33

       WHEREAS, Many pregnancy resource centers provide grief 34
assistance for women and men who regret the loss of their children 35
from past choices they have made; and36

       WHEREAS, Many pregnancy resource centers work to prevent 37
unplanned pregnancies by teaching effective abstinence education 38
in public schools; and39

       WHEREAS, The federal government and state governments are 40
increasingly recognizing the valuable services of pregnancy 41
resource centers through the designation of public funds for such 42
organizations; and43

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers operate primarily through 44
reliance on the voluntary donations and time of caring individuals 45
who are committed to meeting the needs of women and promoting and 46
protecting life; and47

       WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers provide full disclosure, 48
in both their advertisements and direct contact with women, of the 49
types of services they provide; now therefore be it50

       RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 129th General Assembly 51
of the State of Ohio, strongly support pregnancy resource centers 52
in their unique, positive contributions to the individual lives of 53
women and men and of babies -- both born and unborn; and be it 54
further55

       RESOLVED, That we commend the compassionate work of tens of 56
thousands of volunteers and paid staff at pregnancy resource 57
centers in Ohio and across the United States; and be it further58

       RESOLVED, That we encourage the Congress of the United States 59
and other federal and state government agencies to grant pregnancy 60
resource centers assistance for medical equipment and abstinence 61
education in a manner that does not compromise the mission or 62
religious integrity of these organizations; and be it further63

       RESOLVED, That we disapprove of the actions of any national, 64
state, or local groups attempting to prevent pregnancy resource 65
centers from effectively serving individuals facing unplanned 66
pregnancies; and be it further67

       RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 68
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 69
President of the United States, the President Pro Tempore of the 70
United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of 71
Representatives, all other members of Ohio's Congressional 72
delegation, the Governor of the State of Ohio, and to each 73
pregnancy resource center in Ohio.74
