A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To designate the Honor and Remember Flag as Ohio's 1
emblem of the service and sacrifice by those in 2
the United States Armed Forces who have given 3
their lives in the line of duty.4

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, While war deaths have been a part of our heritage 5
since the birth of this nation, the United States of America has 6
not instituted an official symbol commemorating fallen 7
servicepersons; and8

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag's red field represents 9
the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for freedom, 10
the flag's blue star is a symbol of active service in military 11
conflict that dates back to World War I, the flag's white border 12
recognizes the purity of sacrifice, the flag's gold star signifies 13
the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service who is not 14
returning home and reflects the value of the life given, the 15
folded flag element highlights this nation's final tribute to a 16
fallen serviceperson and a family's sacrifice, and the flag's 17
flame symbolizes the eternal spirit of the departed; and18

WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag is a unifying symbol 19
recognizing this nation's solemn debt to the estimated 1.6 million 20
fallen servicepersons throughout history and the families and 21
communities who mourn their loss; now therefore be it 22

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 129th General Assembly 23
of the State of Ohio, in adopting this resolution, designate the 24
Honor and Remember Flag as the State of Ohio's emblem of service 25
and sacrifice by the brave men and women of the United States 26
Armed Forces who have given their lives in the line of duty; and 27
be it further 28

RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 29
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the Ohio 30
Department of Veterans Services, the Speaker and Clerk of the 31
United States House of Representatives, the President Pro Tempore 32
and Secretary of the United States Senate, the members of the Ohio 33
Congressional delegation, and the news media of Ohio.34
