BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE SENATE CONCURRING):
| WHEREAS, Ohio has a rich coal mining history dating back to | 4 |
| 1800. Until the time of World War I, coal mining in the state was | 5 |
| conducted almost exclusively underground and largely by manual | 6 |
| labor; and | 7 |
| WHEREAS, Over 86% of the electricity generated in Ohio is | 8 |
| coal-derived. Our entire nation relies on coal to support its | 9 |
| energy needs; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Our nation owes coal miners a great deal more than | 11 |
| can ever be repaid for the difficult and dangerous job that they | 12 |
| perform so that our nation can have the fuel it needs to operate | 13 |
| industries and to heat homes; and | 14 |
| WHEREAS, It would be proper and fitting for our nation to | 15 |
| recognize coal miners, both past and present, for their | 16 |
| contributions to this nation and for their tremendous sacrifices; | 17 |
| now therefore be it | 18 |
| RESOLVED, That the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, in | 19 |
| adopting this resolution, memorializes the United States Postal | 20 |
| Service to issue a postage stamp honoring America's coal miners, | 21 |
| recognizing the dangerous job that they perform and the | 22 |
| significance of their contributions to the growth and development | 23 |
| of this nation, and illustrating the rich history of this country | 24 |
| for the benefit of schoolchildren, stamp collectors, educators, | 25 |
| and the public; and be it further | 26 |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives | 27 |
| transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the | 28 |
| United States Postal Service, to the United States Postmaster | 29 |
| General, to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee of the United | 30 |
| States Postal Service, to the Speaker and Clerk of the United | 31 |
| States House of Representatives, to the President Pro Tempore and | 32 |
| Secretary of the United States Senate, to the members of the Ohio | 33 |
| Congressional delegation, and to the news media of Ohio. | 34 |
