Representatives Gerberry, Lundy
To prohibit the Ohio Turnpike Commission from | 1 |
increasing tolls before January 1, 2013, and to | 2 |
declare an emergency. | 3 |
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. Notwithstanding any provision of the Revised Code | 4 |
to the contrary, the Ohio Turnpike Commission shall maintain the | 5 |
turnpike tolls at the rates in effect on November 1, 2011, and | 6 |
shall not increase the toll rates for any class of vehicle or type | 7 |
of user before January 1, 2013. | 8 |
Section 2. This act is hereby declared to be an emergency | 9 |
measure necessary for the immediate preservation of the public | 10 |
peace, health, and safety. The reason for such necessity is that | 11 |
the Ohio Turnpike Commission has scheduled an increase in turnpike | 12 |
toll rates effective January 1, 2012, and the resulting inflated | 13 |
rates will endanger communities along the turnpike as traffic | 14 |
diverts to non-toll roads and also will imperil economic recovery | 15 |
in those regions of the state and industries that depend upon the | 16 |
turnpike for cost-effective travel and commerce. | 17 |
