SYNOPSIS
Supports designation of Atlantic City as international center on global warming and climate change.

A Senate Resolution supporting the designation of Atlantic City as an international center on global warming and climate change.
Whereas, Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate, and its related effects; and
Whereas, Rising sea levels due to global warming and climate change will lead to coastal flooding on the Eastern seaboard, including New Jersey; and
Whereas, Because of global warming and climate change, forests, farms, and cities will face troublesome new pests, heat waves, heavy downpours, and increased flooding which will collectively damage or destroy agriculture and fisheries; and
Whereas, Melting glaciers, early snowmelt, and severe droughts will cause more dramatic water shortages and increase the risk of wildfires; and
Whereas, Discussion regarding the impacts of global warming and climate change is imperative in order to avoid its worst effects; and
Whereas, Atlantic City has the infrastructure to become an international hub for discussions on global warming and climate change; and
Whereas, In particular, Atlantic City has ample conference facilities, several world class hotels, a conveniently located international airport, and easily accessible transportation by way of trains, buses, and roadways; and
Whereas, These outstanding facilities allow Atlantic City to welcome scientists, academics, climate experts, government officials, representatives from international organizations, and concerned citizens across the nation and around the world to discuss issues relating to global warming and climate change; and
Whereas, Because Atlantic City is itself vulnerable to the impacts of global warming and climate change through sea-level rise, it is the perfect place to spearhead conversations about the effects of global warming and climate change, and the ideal location to conduct plenary sessions and meetings covering a wide range of topics dealing with all aspects of the issue; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House fully supports the designation of Atlantic City as an international center on global warming and climate change to facilitate conversations about the effects of global warming and climate change and to increase public awareness of the importance of global warming and climate change and their related effects on the economy, health, and environment of all citizens of the State, the nation, and around the globe.
2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Region II Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, each member of Congress elected from the State of New Jersey, the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and the Mayor of Atlantic City.
STATEMENT
This resolution supports the efforts of Atlantic City to become an international center on global warming and climate change to facilitate conversations about the effects of global warming and climate change and to increase public awareness of the importance of global warming and climate change and their related effects on the economy, health, and environment of all citizens of the State, the nation, and around the globe.
