A Senate Resolution urging the Foundation for the New Jersey Hall of Fame to locate the New Jersey Hall of Fame in Asbury Park.

Whereas, New Jersey has given rise to many nationally and internationally known leaders in many diverse areas, including the visual and performing arts, music, literature, science, education, sports, entertainment, business, religion, government, military, and philanthropy; and

Whereas, Since 2005, the New Jersey Hall of Fame has taken the lead in honoring many individuals from New Jersey who have distinguished themselves in the world and excelled in many different fields of endeavor; and

Whereas, Because funding was not available to build a permanent home for the New Jersey Hall of Fame, it was decided in 2009 to use a mobile trailer that could bring the hall and its artifacts to residents across the State; and

Whereas, Years later, the New Jersey Hall of Fame remains housed in a doublewide trailer, which has brought the exhibition to over 300,000 people all across the State; and

Whereas, The New Jersey Hall of Fame should be housed at a permanent site, centrally located, and in a place easily accessible from all parts of the State; and

Whereas, In May 2017, the New Jersey Hall of Fame will be inducting its 10th class at the historic Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the fourth straight year Asbury Park has hosted the ceremony; and

Whereas, Asbury Park is one of the most eclectic spots on the East Coast with a flourishing arts scene, world-class cultural amenities, theaters, museums, art galleries, and film festivals, and a thriving music scene that draws local and international rock, jazz, and blues musicians; and

Whereas, Asbury Park is located in the center of the State, easily accessible from the northern and southern regions of the State, and situated near the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike; and

Whereas, Induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame is the highest civilian honor that our State can bestow upon someone and the hall deserves a permanent home in a vibrant community accessible from all regions of the State, such as Asbury Park; now, therefore,

STATEMENT

This resolution urges the Foundation for the New Jersey Hall of Fame to locate the New Jersey Hall of Fame in Asbury Park.

Since 2005, the New Jersey Hall of Fame has taken the lead in honoring many individuals from New Jersey who have distinguished themselves in many different fields of endeavor.  Currently, the New Jersey Hall of Fame is housed in a trailer that travels around the State.  The State should locate the hall at a permanent site, centrally located, and in a place easily accessible from all parts of the State.  Asbury Park is located in the center of the State and is home to a flourishing arts scene, a thriving music scene, and world-class cultural amenities, theaters, museums, art galleries, and film festivals.  This House believes the State should locate the New Jersey Hall of Fame in Asbury Park.
