SYNOPSIS

     Honors 100th anniversary of NJ Nursery and Landscape Association.

A Joint Resolution honoring the 100th anniversary of the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association.

 

Whereas, Nursery, greenhouse, and sod is the largest and fastest growing sector of the agricultural industry in New Jersey; and

Whereas, New Jersey's nursery, greenhouse, and sod sector accounts for over $400 million in sales annually according to the latest National Agricultural Statistics Service Census of Horticulture; and

Whereas, For 100 years, the New Jersey Nursery and Landscaping Association (NJNLA) has been a leading economic generator and industry innovator by bringing nurserymen, garden retailers, and landscape professionals together to advance the profession of commercial horticulture; and

Whereas, The NJNLA was first organized in 1915 as the "New Jersey Association of Nurserymen," adopting its current name in 1988; and

Whereas, The mission of the founding members of the NJNLA was to share information and practices with industry professionals to expand the nursery industry in New Jersey, an undertaking which the organization continues to engage in by maintaining a website containing useful information for industry professionals; and

Whereas, Throughout its existence, the NJNLA has held its members to high ethical standards, compelling adherence to a code of ethics which requires members to conform both their growing practices and business practices to applicable law and professional standards such as the American Standards for Nursery Stock; and

Whereas, The NJNLA prides itself on fostering communication and networking between its members, educating members on best practices and industry trends, promoting member products and services, and advocating on behalf of its members in government affairs; and

Whereas, The vital role NJNLA has played in the advancement of New Jersey's horticulture industry over the past 100 years should be recognized and celebrated; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The State of New Jersey recognizes and honors the 100th anniversary of the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association and the invaluable contribution it has made to the State and the commercial horticulture industry over the last century.

 

     2.    The Governor and the Legislature call upon the citizens of the State of New Jersey to recognize and honor the 100th anniversary of the New Jersey Nursery and Landscaping Association.

     3.    This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This joint resolution recognizes and honors the 100th anniversary of the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association (NJNLA) and the invaluable contribution it has made to the State and the commercial horticulture industry over the last century.

     The NJNLA provides its members with invaluable resources about growing techniques, applicable laws and professional standards, industry professionals, and industry trends. This information and the high standards to which NJNLA members are held have helped commercial horticulturists make greenhouse nursery and sod the largest sector of agriculture in New Jersey, with sales totaling over $400 million annually.
