SYNOPSIS

     Designates Lake Hopatcong Racing Association as New Jersey Governor's Cup Hydrofest Series.

A Joint Resolution designating the Lake Hopatcong Racing Association as the New Jersey Governor's Cup Hydrofest Series and amending P.L.2009, J.R.4.

 

Whereas, In 2009, the State designated the Sunset Lake Hydrofest as the New Jersey Governor's Cup Hydrofest Series; and

Whereas, In September 2015, the Hydrofest Planning Committee cancelled the Sunset Lake Hydrofest (renamed the Wildwoods Hydrofest New Jersey Governor's Cup Regatta) because the reconfiguration of the streets and parks along the Sunset Lake bay area made it no longer feasible to hold the event there; and

Whereas, The Lake Hopatcong Racing Association features powerboat racing at its finest and draws a large crowd of people to New Jersey to enjoy the event and benefit local businesses; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  Section 1 of P.L.2009, J.R.4 (C.34:1A-52.1) is amended to read as follows:

     1.    The [Sunset Lake Hydrofest in Wildwood Crest] Lake Hopatcong Racing Association in Lake Hopatcong State Park, New Jersey, is designated as the New Jersey Governor's Cup Hydrofest Series.

     2.  Section 2 of P.L.2009, J.R.4 (C.34:1A-52.2) is amended to read as follows:

     2.    An appropriate perpetual trophy or commendation, to be provided by the governing body of the event, shall be designated as the New Jersey Governor's Cup of the [Sunset Lake Hydrofest in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey] Lake Hopatcong Racing Association.

     3.  Section 3 of P.L.2009, J.R.4 (C.34:1A-52.3) is amended to read as follows:

     3.    Every year, the Governor, or the designee thereof, shall award the New Jersey Governor's Cup to the winner of the [Sunset Lake Hydrofest] Lake Hopatcong Racing Association.

     4.  This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

 

     This joint resolution designates the Lake Hopatcong Racing Association in Lake Hopatcong State Park, New Jersey, as the New Jersey Governor's Cup Hydrofest Series.  In 2009, the State designated the Sunset Lake Hydrofest as the New Jersey Governor's Cup Hydrofest Series.  In September 2015, the Hydrofest Planning Committee cancelled the Sunset Lake Hydrofest (renamed the Wildwoods Hydrofest New Jersey Governor's Cup Regatta) because the reconfiguration of the streets and parks along the Sunset Lake bay area made it no longer feasible to hold the event.  This joint resolution transfers the New Jersey Governor's Cup Hydrofest Series from the Sunset Lake Hydrofest to the Lake Hopatcong Racing Association.
